Struggling with sex addiction is incredibly painful and isolating for the addict and everyone in their life. The good news is that for those who want it, recovery can be a reality.
How do I know it's become a problem?
I've found one of the hardest moments in this journey is the very beginning- admitting that sexual behavior has become out of control, is doing damage in multiple areas, and is no longer satisfying. It's hard to admit this, but it's also liberating. Struggling in this area does not mean it defines you or that you are "all bad" but it does mean that work will have to be done to change patterns of thinking and behaving.

Being in a group is essential to recovery in this area, as we move from isolation and shame to connection, accountability, and acceptance. I run groups for men and for partners who are struggling with the trauma of living alongside this addiction. Right now groups are running on Wednesday mornings. Contact me to get the latest information and to see if any groups are currently open.
Information about Treatment
After your first session you will come away with an answer to the "why?" question of how you got here. After asking you questions about your behaviors and background, I will be able to tell you what type of sexual addiction you are dealing with. I work out of a 6 type model and will tailor your treatment plan according to which combination of types you present with. You will know what you need to do in order to move into freedom.
With my training as a marriage and family therapist, I understand and am comfortable working with the entire family system. Partners will need support for their own journey of recovery, as will other members of the family. Once each individual has reached some level of stability, it then becomes useful to meet together and work on healing as a unit.

Fight The New Drug provides a great summary of research explaining how porn affects the brain, relationships, and society. Very helpful for initially developing an understanding of how and why porn is harmful.
I have read extensively on this topic and completed a certification program through the American Association for Sex Addiction Therapy that included 45 hours of study, an exam, and ongoing weekly supervision with Dr. Douglas Weiss, a pioneer and leader in the field of sex addiction treatment. I am a certified Sexual Recovery Therapist.
A Personal Word
I came to specialize in this area gradually and unintentionally. It was clear to me in graduate school that I wanted to help marriages and families to be stronger. Once I started doing the work, I became aware of a force destroying marriages at a faster rate than anything else, and it was sexual issues. Affairs, pornography, sexual dissatisfaction between partners, and lack of connection. It baffled those struggling with it and they often couldn't find answers about why they were doing what they did or how to heal. This is a complex issue that requires specific training and knowledge base, so help from friends, pastors, and even other counselors often fell short.
I see a huge need for this issue to be talked about and worked with. I want you to know you will not receive any judgment from me during our time together. I have great compassion for those stuck in the painful cycle of sexual addiction, and I have even more respect for those who decide to become honest and open about the struggle. I'm passionate about helping you in this area, so don't waste another moment in pain, loneliness, and shame.
